Coventry City Council Coventry City

NOW Wireless have been working closely with Coventry City Council since 2006, developing both the wired and wireless network required to support their city-wide traffic control system upgrade to UTMC (Urban Traffic Management and Control).

The key aim of the initial solution was to provide wireless connectivity between traffic lights using Mesh4G™ technology, however, additional network planning, product design and support has been given to various companies to increase the capability of the Mesh4G™ network to include the Primeline bus stops / RTI signs, VMS signs for traffic control and CCTV.

NOW Wireless have also developed a standalone GSM/GPRS device capable of backhauling data in to the Coventry UTMC common database in remote rural locations where any wireless or cabled solution would be expensive and impractical.

At present, there are approximately 160 Mesh4G™ nodes deployed for traffic lights and a further 50 planned to be installed within bus stop signs along the prime routes. All of these are backhauled by a total of 24 fibre-fed wireless access points spread
throughout Coventry City.
